Maryland 1199SEIU Nurses Star in a Series of Health Care Reform Videos

Two 1199SEIU nurses from Maryland are starring in series of health care reform videos called “Health Care Professionals Speak Out for Reform,” currently posted on the Senate Democrats website. Linda Bock, an RN at the Senior Health Center in Brentwood, Maryland and Debbie Wilkes, an RN in the NICU at Prince George’s Hospital Center in Cheverly, Maryland speak from experiences over their long careers of caring to demonstrate that the nation’s broken health care system must be fixed now.

In the videos, Linda and Debbie, along with several doctors, address various aspects of the issue, including the current health care crisis, the focus on sickness rather than wellness, and insurance companies putting profits before patients.

In the insurance video, Linda says, “They’re denying them the x-rays that they need to see what’s going on. They’re denying them the time in the hospital that they need to recover.” And Debbie says, “Quite often they’re arguing with an insurance company who may have a physician at their end but that physician is not a physician caring for that patient and his goal is moving [the patient] through the system fast.”
